Michael Matthews is a British guitarist whose expressive performances are earning him a reputation as a leading voice of his generation. Known for combining technical rigour with creativity, he brings fresh identity to classical repertoire and bold energy to contemporary works. He has performed widely in the UK and abroad in concerts, competitions, and masterclasses. Michael studied with leading guitarists including Paolo Pegoraro, Michael Lewin and Fabio Zanon.

His playing has been heard at Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, and major UK festivals. He has received numerous awards, including the Sir John Manduell Prize, and support from the Concordia Foundation, Tillett Trust, Help Musicians UK, and others. In 2022 he joined the International Guitar Foundation’s Young Artists’ Platform, leading to a recital at the London Guitar Festival 2023.
